Indian Janta Curfew

In the wake of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal of 'Janata curfew' to prevent the spread of Corona virus, unprecedented arrest was seen across the country today. After the 'Janata curfew' came into effect from 7 am, people kept themselves confined indoors and some public transport vehicles appeared on the empty roads as part of the initiative to maintain social distance. The Janata curfew is visible from Delhi, UP-Bihar to Maharashtra. People living in homes in cities across the country are fighting the war against the Corona virus.


Barring establishments involving essential goods or services, all other markets and institutions are closed throughout the day. The public curfew will end at 9 pm. Before the curfew began, Prime Minister Modi said, 'In a few minutes from now, the public curfew is about to begin. Let us all be a part of this curfew which will give immense strength in the fight against the problem of Kovid-19. He said that the steps taken now will prove to be helpful in the coming time. Stay at home and be healthy. '

Roads were deserted in the national capital, where barely a few private vehicles and buses were seen moving. No carts of fruits and vegetables were seen on the streets and people kept themselves imprisoned in the houses. In some areas of Delhi, some people appeared outside in the morning even if the policemen gave them flowers and sent them back home. The police's profanity is also seen from place to place.
The western and eastern express highways and other important routes, which were always full of people in Mumbai, remained empty as people stayed in their homes to support the curfew. This was also the situation in suburban rail stations where thousands of people are seen trying to board the already heavy trains on normal days.

Similar was the condition of the streets of Kolkata and the public spaces were completely deserted. Generally, there were small number of people at Esplanade, Dalhousie, airport and railway station, who were buzzing with the initiative of the people.

The widespread impact of Janata curfew was also seen in Uttar Pradesh. Public transport is closed in all major cities of the state including the capital Lucknow and shops and other business establishments are also not open. Shops in the capital city of Lucknow such as Hazratganj, Alambagh, Gomti Nagar, Aliganj and Aminabad were generally closed and no other vehicles of police forces were seen on the roads.

According to reports from all the districts including Gorakhpur, Rae Bareli, Azamgarh, Gonda, Bahraich, Kanpur, Bareilly and Jhansi, the Janata curfew is in full effect and people are locked in their homes. There is silence on the streets. Shops and markets are completely closed. The government had already given orders to close theaters, cafes, restaurants and bars. Only people connected with essential services were seen traveling in connection with work.

Bihar curfew is also seeing widespread impact in Bihar. People in the districts of Patna, Nawada, Gaya, Ara etc. did not come out of their homes and played their part in the fight against Corona.

States like Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan and Bihar have declared complete or partial closure till the end of the month. No passenger train will run from any railway station in the country from midnight to Sunday night while all suburban trains will also run at least. Metro services to other cities including Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai will be closed throughout the day. Airline companies such as Go Air, IndiGo and Vistaar announced that they would cease domestic operations on Sunday.
